Four Dead as Winds Hamper Colorado Highway
18 Feb
Summary
- Massive pileup on southern Colorado highway killed four people.
- Nearly 29 others hospitalized due to the multi-vehicle crash.
- High winds created brownout conditions, severely reducing visibility.

At least four individuals lost their lives and approximately 29 others were transported to medical facilities following a catastrophic multi-vehicle collision on a Colorado highway Tuesday. The incident occurred on Interstate 25 south of Denver.
Authorities reported that the crash involved over 30 vehicles. Heavy winds generated significant dust, leading to brownout conditions that severely impaired drivers' ability to see the road. This dangerous reduction in visibility was the primary cause of the massive pileup.
The Colorado State Patrol confirmed that both northbound and southbound lanes of I-25 were shut down as emergency services responded. The National Weather Service had issued a high wind warning for eastern Colorado, anticipating sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, warning of hazardous travel conditions.
