Hot Coffee Spill Leads to Life-Altering Injury
28 May
Summary
- A man's life irrevocably changed after a hot coffee spill.
- The incident occurred on a Virgin Atlantic flight from Las Vegas.
- Legal action has been initiated due to the severity of the injury.

A man from Hertfordshire has stated his life will "never be the same again" following a severe burn to his penis. The injury occurred when a cup of hot coffee spilled onto him during a Virgin Atlantic flight from Las Vegas to London Heathrow last December.
Nicholas Gibbs, 41, a full-time carer, reported extreme pain that prevented him from adequately caring for his mother. He claims that after the incident, he was provided only with paracetamol and loose-fitting pyjamas, with promised medical support upon landing failing to materialize. The burn, which initially blistered badly, has healed but has had a significant impact on his mental health and personal relationships.
Gibbs alleged that the coffee cup spilled due to a "badly slanted and too flimsy" tray table. He described sitting on a wet chair for an hour before receiving burn cream and a bandage. His solicitor highlighted a concerning rise in injuries from hot drink spillages linked to defective tray tables. Virgin Atlantic stated their cabin crew is trained to serve hot drinks safely and that they cannot comment on ongoing investigations.
