Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a rock-climbing accident that occurred on Sunday, September 26, 2026, at Bear Mountain in Algonquin Highlands Township. The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. when a climber was struck by a falling rock while descending.
The injured climber lost consciousness and needed assistance to be brought down from the mountain. Due to the area's inaccessibility by land, fire rescue launched a boat to transport police and paramedics to the scene.
The climber was subsequently taken to a landing area to be airlifted by Ornge air ambulance to a trauma center in the Toronto area. Police are now appealing for witnesses, particularly hikers or climbers who may have observed the accident, to come forward.
