China has raised its highest red alert for mountain flood risks, signaling extreme danger across large swathes of its central and eastern territories. The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued the alert on Sunday evening. Western Anhui and eastern Hubei provinces are identified as facing an exceptionally high risk of flash floods.
Orange-level warnings are also in effect for other areas, including parts of Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Hubei. Heavy to torrential rainfall is forecast across the Yangtze River basin and other regions, with severe rainstorms expected. Some areas could experience up to 300 millimeters of rain in 24 hours, potentially triggering intense thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail.
Concurrently, a meteorological risk warning for geological disasters has been issued, with high risks anticipated in southern Anhui and eastern Hubei. Local authorities are directed to intensify disaster prevention efforts, including real-time monitoring and timely warnings. Residents in vulnerable areas are strongly advised to evacuate immediately from zones near slopes, cliffs, rivers, and ravines.
