Heavy rains have devastated much of Chile, claiming 13 lives and leaving seven people missing as of Tuesday. The inclement weather, which has impacted areas from the country's center to the south, has caused widespread flooding, blocked roads, and significant home damage.
Authorities have reported that 2,281 individuals have been displaced, 81 homes destroyed, and 2,761 homes severely damaged. A substantial 87,000 people are still without electricity. The Chilean government intends to pursue sanctions against electricity distributors for prolonged power outages.
Educational activities were also affected, with classes suspended in numerous municipalities across four regions. While major mining operations in the north remain largely unaffected, some companies have had to scale back activities due to the adverse conditions.
