Girl, 6, Dies After Badminton Racket Explodes

A devastating vacation incident in Maine resulted in the tragic death of a 6-year-old New Jersey girl, Lucy Morgan. While observing her siblings play badminton on June 1, 2024, the head and metal neck of her brother's racket unexpectedly dislodged. The detached components flew through the air, with the sharp end striking Lucy's temple and penetrating her skull. She managed to pull the metal piece out before collapsing and losing consciousness.

First responders were called, and Lucy was airlifted to a hospital in Portland, where medical professionals attempted to save her life. Tragically, life support was withdrawn, and she passed away on July 5, 2024. Her family has since filed a lawsuit against Franklin Sports, Inc., a Massachusetts corporation, alleging negligence in the manufacturing of the badminton racket.

Attorneys for the Morgan family stated that this was a "parent's worst nightmare" and are committed to holding Franklin Sports accountable for what they allege was a dangerous and defective product. The lawsuit seeks damages for funeral expenses, emotional distress, and loss of companionship, among other claims. It was also revealed that a similar incident involving a Franklin Sports racket occurred previously in New York, where another child lost an eye.
