Chennai Road Chaos: Encroachments Cripple 100 Feet Road

The sixth lane of Chennai's arterial 100 Feet Road, linking key northern and southern areas, is now unusable. Encroachments by parked cars, dumped construction pipes, and roadside vendors have significantly narrowed the carriageway. This obstruction forces vehicles into fewer lanes, creating daily traffic bottlenecks and hazardous conditions.

Recent construction of a stormwater drain, though complete, has left pavements disconnected and damaged portions of the sixth lane unrepaired. This has contributed to the ongoing blockage, with illegal sewage connections further exacerbating the problem by spilling onto the road during monsoons.

Pedestrians are compelled to walk on the road itself due to blocked pavements. This dangerous situation not only poses a risk to life but also leads to the accumulation of garbage and sewage, highlighting a critical urban infrastructure and public space management issue.
