Cheerleader's Death: Parents Sue Coaches and Doctor
26 Feb
Summary
- Eight-year-old cheerleader died from a brain bleed.
- Parents allege coaches and doctor are responsible for her death.
- Lawsuit claims medical malpractice and negligence by defendants.

An eight-year-old cheerleader in Nebraska, Reese Bryan, has died following a major brain bleed. Her parents have initiated legal action, asserting that her coaches and a pediatrician are responsible for her death.
The complaint alleges that Reese, who had a known neurological condition and an undiagnosed brain tumor, was compelled by her cheer coaches to perform strenuous activities, including at a competition in Kansas City. This occurred weeks before her death.
Nine days after collapsing at her cheer facility on January 29, 2024, where her family claims she was left alone and concealed, Reese was rushed to the hospital. Her mother had taken her to pediatrician Dr. Lars Vanderbur due to troubling symptoms, but the doctor allegedly diagnosed 'post-infection fatigue' and refused to order imaging scans.
Reese remained hospitalized until her passing on February 23, 2024. Her parents are seeking a jury trial, accusing Elite Cheer and Dr. Vanderbur of medical malpractice and negligence, seeking justice for their daughter.
