A tragic accident occurred on Friday evening in Chandigarh, resulting in the death of a 66-year-old man. Vijay Kumar Chawla, a resident of Sector 44, was fatally struck by a speeding car on the road dividing Sector 34 and Sector 44. The incident happened as Chawla and his daughter-in-law, Priya, were returning from a walk.
The driver of the car did not stop and fled the scene immediately after hitting Chawla. Emergency services were called, and the victim was transported to GMCH-32. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the fatal hit-and-run.
Police have filed a case concerning the accident but have not yet made any arrests. They are actively reviewing CCTV camera footage from the vicinity of the crash site to identify the vehicle and apprehend the driver responsible. Priya has provided her statement to the Sector 34 police.
