A steamer carrying over 100 passengers and more than 50 motorcycles broke down in the Chambal River on Sunday morning. The incident occurred as the vessel was traversing the river from Nagra Sahaspur Ghat in Morena's Porsa area towards the Bateshwara Mahadev Temple in Uttar Pradesh.
The steamer's engine suddenly stopped functioning while in the middle of the river, causing the vessel to drift. Passengers reported that the steamer had run out of diesel, with one also suggesting a piece of cloth became entangled in the propeller. The crew attempted to guide the drifting vessel towards the bank using poles.
Despite the perilous drift towards Bhind district, the steamer was eventually guided safely to the bank at Kachhpura in the Ater area of Bhind. All passengers disembarked without any injuries. Post-rescue, arrangements were made for their onward transportation from a nearby water project plant site.
