In Jurupa Valley, a swift response by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews led to the dramatic rescue of four cats from a burning apartment building. Arriving at the scene, firefighters discovered three of the felines unconscious and not breathing amidst the smoke and flames. Demonstrating remarkable dedication, the first responders immediately began resuscitation efforts outside the damaged structure. Video footage captured firefighters performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the distressed animals.
Additional crews quickly provided oxygen to the unconscious cats. Within moments, the vital intervention paid off as the cats began to stir, one by one, regaining consciousness. After being given water by the firefighters, the cats showed remarkable recovery, perking up and walking around. The fire was successfully extinguished within an hour. While one resident sustained minor injuries and declined hospitalization, the blaze resulted in the destruction of nine apartments and left 14 people displaced. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those affected, and Animal Control has been engaged to ensure the rescued cats receive further necessary treatment.
