Malibu's Shocking Fourth of July Danger Ranking Revealed
4 Jul
Summary
- Malibu ranked fourth most dangerous city for holiday.
- Northern California cities face high traffic and fire risks.
- Hillsborough identified as the safest California city.

A new study by Maison Law has revealed the most perilous cities in California for celebrating the Fourth of July. While Clearlake was identified as the most dangerous city, the affluent beach community of Malibu secured the fourth spot, a ranking attributed largely to its alarming crash statistics.
The analysis examined 373 cities, evaluating factors such as holiday crash rates, injury deaths, fire incident rates, and fireworks availability. Northern California communities, including Clearlake and Susanville, disproportionately appeared in the rankings due to a combination of higher traffic fatality and fire incident rates.
Martin Gasparian, founding attorney of Maison Law, noted that the holiday presents a confluence of risks including impaired driving, late-night travel, fireworks, and fire danger. The report aims to inform Californians about heightened risks to encourage safer decision-making.
Conversely, Hillsborough was found to be the safest place to celebrate, followed by Rancho Palos Verdes and Lomita. The study's findings offer valuable insights for residents planning their holiday activities.
