Man's Car Erupts in Flames Near Home; Suicide Suspected

A 66-year-old man, identified as Sudhakaran, died on Wednesday morning when the car he was driving caught fire near his residence in Chevayur, Kozhikode. The incident occurred around 4:45 AM, close to an industrial centre and barely 300 metres from his home.
Local residents heard a sound resembling an explosion and alerted authorities. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the car was completely destroyed. While initial suspicions pointed to an accident, CCTV footage showed the vehicle moving at reduced speed, leading police to consider suicide as a possibility.
Investigators found a five-litre can near the car and are looking into whether Sudhakaran had purchased petrol. The deceased was a vehicle and property dealer and had reportedly told his family he was going to Vadakara to collect a vehicle.
