- The family of eight-year-old Cile Steward seeks over $1,000,000 in damages.

Seven months after a devastating July 4 flood claimed 27 lives at Camp Mystic, a fifth lawsuit has been initiated. The legal team representing the family of eight-year-old Cile Steward, who is presumed deceased, filed the action in Travis County.
The lawsuit details numerous warnings issued by the Texas Department of Emergency Management regarding the impending storm. It alleges that Camp Mystic owners, the Eastland family, received flash flood warnings.
Despite these alerts and moving canoes to higher ground, the lawsuit claims Edward Eastland instructed campers to "stay put" in their cabins as the waters rose. Tragically, Cile and others were swept away.
The Steward family is seeking a jury trial and at least $1,000,000 in damages, asserting the Eastlands failed to take accountability and dismissed prior flooding incidents at the camp.
Camp Mystic's legal team expressed empathy but stated they would demonstrate the flood's unprecedented nature and the lack of adequate warning systems. They also contested misinformation regarding the actions of Dick Eastland, who also perished in the flood.
