- Bungee cord snapped mid-jump, causing victim to crash into nearby structure
- Authorities say safety protocols were poorly enforced at the adventure site

On November 9th, 2025, a 24-year-old man from Gurugram, Sonu Kumar, suffered severe injuries when the bungee cord he was attached to suddenly snapped during a jump at the Shivpuri bungee jumping site in Rishikesh. According to eyewitnesses, the safety protocols at the adventure facility were poorly enforced, and the staff were not following standard procedures.
CCTV footage of the incident shows Sonu leaping off the platform with the bungee cord properly attached. However, as he reached about halfway into the descent, the cord unexpectedly snapped, sending him free-falling straight onto the roof of a nearby structure. Sonu crashed into the structure with high impact and was immediately rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh, where he is currently undergoing treatment for his serious injuries.
Despite the severity of the accident, the authorities have not yet received a formal complaint from the victim's side. A Munikireti Police Station in-charge confirmed that legal action will be taken against the company once a complaint is filed. Serious questions have been raised regarding the bungee jumping operator's safety measures, staff training, and the Tourism Department's oversight of such high-risk adventure activities in the region.
