28 Aug
Summary
- Three teenagers died after a speeding SUV crashed and flipped.
- The driver had multiple speeding summonses since 2025.
- Seatbelts were not worn by the three deceased teenagers.

Three teenagers lost their lives following a severe car crash on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn late Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. near 86th Street when the 18-year-old driver of a 2022 Cadillac Escalade, Huzayfah Aziz Algaheim, braked to avoid another vehicle.
The SUV was subsequently rear-ended by a Honda HR-V. The collision caused the Escalade to strike a guardrail, spin, and overturn. Tragically, three of the five teenagers inside were ejected and were not wearing seatbelts.
Algaheim and two passengers, identified as 17-year-old Konstantin Gerantidi and 16-year-old Abdul Rehman, all from Brighton Beach, were pronounced dead at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. Two other passengers in the Escalade, who were wearing seatbelts, and the two women in the Honda HR-V, suffered injuries but were reported in stable condition at Maimonides Medical Center.
Police indicated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, as the driver's blood alcohol concentration was zero. It remains unclear how fast the Escalade was traveling. Records show Mr. Algaheim had an active license despite receiving six summonses since 2025, including one for speeding and driving on the shoulder in August 2025, and another for speeding and unsafe lane changes on the Belt Parkway in January 2026.
