- The backhoe had been parked illegally for two weeks, family claims.
- The victim was steps from his autobody shop when the crash occurred.

A fatal collision occurred in the Bronx when an SUV struck a parked backhoe, resulting in the death of 44-year-old Mohamed Salim. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on Friday in Baychester. Salim was a passenger in the vehicle, which police stated lost control before hitting the stationary construction equipment.
The victim's family expressed profound grief, with his mother lamenting his senseless death during Ramadan. They contend that the backhoe, a city sanitation department front-end loader, had been improperly parked for over two weeks. The family alleges the equipment was broken and posed a hazard, especially being double-parked in the street.
While Salim was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital, the 24-year-old driver and another passenger are expected to recover. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is actively investigating the cause of the crash. Salim was a former mechanical engineer for Mercedes-Benz who later established his own autobody shop.
