Bad weather has prevented helicopters from joining the search, with aircraft remaining on standby. The avalanche struck the team last Thursday at an altitude of approximately 7,000 meters while they were attempting to summit the 8,051-meter peak, the world's 12th-highest mountain.
Authorities have confirmed the recovery of eight bodies. Among the recovered climbers was Nirmal Purja, a renowned British-Nepalese mountaineer famous for his record-breaking ascent of the world's 14 highest mountains. The expedition group comprised individuals from Nepal, Pakistan, Oman, the United States, and China.
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the affected nations. He commended the rescue personnel for their dedication in exceptionally challenging conditions and affirmed Pakistan's commitment to the ongoing recovery efforts in coordination with diplomatic missions.
