A stag party in Albufeira, Portugal, turned horrific when 25-year-old Jakob Davies fell from a three-storey balcony on June 5, 2026. Davies, from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, had been participating in a stag weekend with approximately 30 colleagues. While others in his group went out, Davies stayed behind to play football and has no recollection of the fall.
He was discovered unconscious with severe head injuries and broken bones. After initial treatment, he was transferred to a hospital in Faro, where he was diagnosed with a serious head injury, fractures to both feet and ankles, and breaks in his L1 and L4 vertebrae. Doctors have warned Davies that urgent surgery is required if he is to have any chance of walking again.
Davies's family is now facing a potential crisis as his travel insurance provider is reviewing his claim due to alcohol detected in his system. His mother expressed concern that this could leave them with substantial medical expenses. A GoFundMe appeal has been established to help cover his medical costs and the expense of bringing him back to the UK.
