A British tourist sustained severe head injuries after a fall of approximately 32 feet near Amado Beach in Portugal's Algarve. The 34-year-old man was conscious but disoriented following the incident, which occurred around 3:30 PM.
A significant rescue effort was launched, involving 20 firefighters, an ambulance helicopter, and the Lagos Maritime Police. Firefighters had to be deployed to reach the injured man. He was airlifted to Faro hospital for treatment.
The accident happened as the man was using old cables, typically used by fishermen, to navigate a steep, rocky area. One of these cables reportedly broke, leading to the fall. The area is not a designated climbing site, and the reason for his descent remains unclear.
This incident occurred in the Costa Vincentina park, near Aljezur. It is noteworthy that a British professional surfer, Arran Strong, went missing in the nearby waters in July, highlighting potential dangers in the region.
