Sister Blames Poor Safety After Brother's Tragic Drowning
8 Jan
Summary
- A British man drowned off a Thai beach due to strong waves.
- His sister claims the lifeguard on duty was unable to swim.
- Concerns raised over emergency response and beach safety standards.

Jason Lambert, a 37-year-old from Colchester, tragically drowned off Freedom Beach in Phuket, Thailand, on November 29 last year. He was holidaying with his family when he and a group of seven others were swept out to sea by strong waves and a rip current.
His sister, Lauren Smy, has voiced strong criticism regarding the emergency response and safety protocols at the beach. She alleges that the lifeguard on duty at the time stated he was unable to swim, a claim that has cast doubt on the adequacy of lifeguard training and beach safety measures in the popular tourist destination.
Despite a UK coroner ruling Lambert's death accidental, Ms Smy highlighted alleged mishandling of the aftermath at the hospital, including delays in a post-mortem examination. Lambert was pulled from the water after being caught in the current, and despite attempts at CPR, he could not be revived.
