Tragedy struck early Sunday morning north of Brisbane when a fierce house fire erupted in Lawnton. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Darcy Way just after 5:30 am, confronting a blaze so intense that the roof had partially collapsed.
Tragically, one person was confirmed dead at the scene. Four others, identified as two teenagers and a man and woman in their 30s, sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Firefighters worked to contain the fire, which also threatened to spread to neighbouring properties. Residents in the vicinity were briefly evacuated for safety but were permitted to return home by 7 am. Emergency services continue to be present at the location.
