30 Jun
Summary
- Two million liters of water were used to extinguish the art materials factory fire.
- Homes near the Daler-Rowney site were evacuated for nearly 24 hours.
- Contaminated fire water entered the surface system, causing environmental impact.
An estimated two million liters of water were utilized to combat a significant fire at an art materials manufacturing site in Bracknell, Berkshire. Firefighters from six different services collaborated in the extensive operation.
Residents in homes adjacent to the Daler-Rowney facility were evacuated on May 25 and returned the following day. A light breeze caused a large smoke plume to rise above Bracknell, prompting authorities to assess potential contamination.
Although dust and debris from the blaze settled on homes, the risk from asbestos in the factory's roof was deemed low. However, contaminated fire water has entered the surface water system, leading to some environmental impact that is under close observation.
