14 Feb
Summary
- An 11-year-old boy died from inhaling aerosol propellant.
- His mother found him unresponsive in bed the next morning.
- The coroner issued a warning about the dangerous TikTok trend.

An 11-year-old boy, Freddie Davis, accidentally died in his bedroom on January 20, 2025, from inhaling butane aerosol propellant. His mother discovered his cold body in bed the following morning when she went to wake him for school.
The inquest revealed that Freddie was an outgoing and popular student who enjoyed sports and school. His mother had previously warned him about the dangers of 'Chroming,' a trend involving inhaling common household substances, which she had seen on TikTok. She had even stopped buying him aerosol sprays, opting for roll-on deodorants instead, after noticing a can of body spray was emptied in 24 hours.
During the inquest, the coroner issued a warning to parents about the dangerous trend, noting that such inhalations can be toxic and cause cardiac arrhythmias or death. The coroner stated that more publicity is needed regarding the dangers of aerosol misuse among children. The incident highlights a broader issue, with 716 deaths related to volatile substances registered in England and Wales between 2001 and 2020.
