In New Brighton, Merseyside, a five-year-old boy, Lucas, became a real-life hero after being spotted in his Batman costume. While traveling home from a school performance, Lucas noticed a man in distress on a sandbank that was quickly being submerged by rising waters.
Lucas alerted his family, who then contacted the Wirral Coastguard. A lifeboat, already on a training exercise, was able to quickly reach the stranded man and his two dogs. The man had attempted to reach shore but was advised to stay put due to dangerous currents.
The rescued man and his dogs were brought ashore safely. When told his actions had saved a life, Lucas declared, "Just like Batman!" His observant actions were catalogued as rescue number 194 for 2026 by the Wirral Coastguard.
