15 Apr
Summary
- A fire in an electrical room at BMC Brighton caused an ICU evacuation.
- Patients and staff are reported safe following the overnight incident.
- Power outages have led to rescheduling of appointments and procedures.

An early Wednesday morning fire in an electrical room at the Brighton campus of Boston Medical Center prompted the evacuation of its intensive care unit. The fire, which occurred at the facility on Cambridge Street, formerly known as St. Elizabeth's, has been contained.
According to a hospital spokesperson, all patients and staff were confirmed to be safe. However, the incident has caused power disruptions in certain areas of the hospital. As a consequence, some patients are being transferred to other medical facilities, including the primary Boston Medical Center campus.
In addition to patient transfers, the power outage has necessitated the rescheduling of several planned elective procedures and outpatient appointments. The hospital is currently not accepting ambulance patients at the Brighton location as operations are being managed amid the disruption.
