Human remains discovered in steep terrain are believed to belong to John Morrison, a 70-year-old man last seen leaving his Coulee City home on July 5, 2026. Authorities initially issued a missing person's bulletin, expressing concern for his health and safety.
Weeks after his disappearance, on July 14, 2026, a suspicious vehicle was reported in Orondo, Washington. Deputies located the abandoned car, later identified as belonging to Morrison. The vehicle was found approximately 50 miles from his residence, in an area that seemed difficult for the car to access.
Following the vehicle's discovery, aerial searches using a drone and a helicopter were conducted. During the helicopter search on July 15, 2026, a body was spotted significantly below the vehicle's location. The remains were recovered on July 16, 2026, by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office's Aviation Unit and taken for an autopsy to the Douglas County Coroner's Office.
