A 45-year-old maintenance worker, Abin Mathai, has died after sustaining a traumatic head injury in a workplace incident. He had moved to the UK from India with his wife, Diana, and their two young children approximately eighteen months prior to his death on November 14, 2026. His passing occurred at Royal Preston Hospital.
An inquest into Abin's death was opened and adjourned on February 25, 2026, at Preston Coroners' Court. The coroner confirmed the cause of death as a traumatic head injury, with a full jury inquest scheduled for a future date.
Following his tragic death, the Blackburn Malayali Community initiated a GoFundMe appeal.
