In Sitamarhi district, a catastrophic event unfolded late Monday night when a decades-old peepal tree fell onto a family's mud house. The massive tree's collapse tragically claimed the lives of five family members, including three children, while they slept.
The victims, identified as Pooja Devi, her seven-year-old son Rajkumar, five-year-old daughter Shivani, and one-month-old son Liger Kumar, all died at the scene. Their two-year-old son, Veerbhard Kumar, who was initially rescued in critical condition, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Local villagers immediately rushed to the site to assist in rescue efforts. Senior administrative and police officials also arrived to inspect the area and oversee relief operations. Authorities attributed the tree's fall to its age and weakened roots from frequent storms. The district administration has initiated the process of providing government assistance and compensation to the affected family.
