Bhima River Surges, Temples Submerged in Pandharpur
30 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Bhima river crosses warning level of 443 meters in Pandharpur
- Solapur-Vijaypur National Highway 52 shut due to Sina river flooding
- Authorities expect further rise in Bhima river level this afternoon

As of September 30th, 2025, the Bhima river, also known as Chandrabhaga, has crossed the warning level of 443 meters in the temple town of Pandharpur, Solapur district, Maharashtra. The river is currently flowing at 443.19 meters, just touching the new bridge.
The situation has led to the closure of the Solapur-Vijaypur National Highway 52 at Hattur, 13 km from Solapur city. The flooded waters of the Sina river continue to submerge the stretch of the highway, affecting traffic between Solapur and Karnataka.
In Pandharpur, the Bhima river is inching towards the danger mark of 445 meters. This is due to a discharge of about 125,000 cusecs from the Ujani Dam and around 7,000 cusecs from the Veer Dam, causing the river to overflow. Water has already started entering riverside houses in the Ambika Nagar area.
Authorities have reported that based on the current situation, nearly 130,000 cusecs of water is being discharged into the Bhima river. As a result, the water level in Pandharpur is likely to rise significantly this afternoon, potentially inundating settlements such as Vyas Narayan slum and other riverside houses. The temples along the Chandrabhaga river beach have already been submerged, and the ghat is also underwater.
The authorities have advised devotees to avoid going near the river flow. However, they remain hopeful that the river water level may go down as there is a decline in rainfall activity in the catchment areas of the Ujani dam and the district.
