Tragedy struck Bengaluru as a compound wall at Bowring Hospital collapsed during a severe rainstorm, resulting in the deaths of seven people. Among the victims were three children, two women, and two other individuals who had sought shelter near the wall.
The city experienced extreme weather conditions, with 8 cm of rainfall and winds gusting up to 75 kilometers per hour in a short span of 1.5 hours. This intense downpour also caused at least 50 trees to fall across the city.
Authorities reported that nine people were standing by the hospital wall when it fell. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar promptly visited the hospital premises to review the situation and console the affected families. The Deputy Chief Minister canceled his engagements to be present at the scene.
