Backpacker Found After 2 Years: Mystery Solved
27 Feb
Summary
- Human remains identified as Celine Cremer, missing since June 2023.
- Discovery made over two years after her disappearance near Cradle Mountain.
- Bones, teeth, and clothing found near Arthur River in dense bushland.

Human remains found in a remote Tasmanian wilderness area are believed to be those of Celine Cremer, a Belgian backpacker who disappeared over two years ago. Commander Nathan Johnston confirmed compelling evidence suggests the remains belong to Ms. Cremer, who was last seen near Cradle Mountain on June 17, 2023. She was reported missing nine days later, sparking an extensive search that included ground crews, drones, and helicopters. Her car was discovered at the Philosopher Falls car park. A breakthrough occurred in January 2026 when a bushwalker found bones and other items near the Arthur River, in an area previously only surveyed by helicopter. Ms. Cremer's family has been awaiting confirmation, and a coroner's report will officially determine the identity of the remains.
