A 55-year-old amateur beekeeper, Alan Ransom, passed away on May 15, 2024, following a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting. The incident occurred on May 10, 2024, when Mr. Ransom, a civil engineer from Godshill on the Isle of Wight, was tending to his bees without wearing his protective hat.
He experienced anaphylactic shock after being stung on the ear. Emergency services intervened, and he was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where he succumbed to hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy caused by a lack of oxygen. The coroner's inquest concluded his death was a misadventure.
Mr. Ransom, known online as 'The Vectis Bee Man,' had kept bees for six years and shared his beekeeping journey on YouTube. In tribute, his friends and family raised over £1,500 for Cancer Research UK, remembering him as a kind and gentle soul.
