A tragic accident claimed the life of a 64-year-old Bartlett Public Works employee on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 8:35 a.m. at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Railroad Avenue when an Elgin-bound Metra train struck a small snowplow vehicle operated by the victim.
Metra District West service was significantly disrupted following the collision, with inbound and outbound trains halted. Though extensive delays were initially expected, train movement resumed around 9:30 a.m. Fortunately, no Metra passengers reported any injuries.
The Metra Police Department is spearheading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and federal transportation officials also responded to the scene to determine if the victim failed to see the approaching train.
