A cruise boat carrying 29 passengers and two crew members capsized in the Bargi Dam reservoir in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district on Thursday evening. The vessel overturned due to a sudden, fierce storm that generated choppy waters, despite passengers' alarms to the crew.
As of Friday, the death toll has tragically risen to seven. Officials reported that 16 individuals have been rescued, but several tourists remained missing. A large-scale search and rescue operation, involving personnel from the Army, NDRF, and SDRF, continued overnight to locate everyone onboard.
Authorities are utilizing hydraulic cranes to surface the overturned boat. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Minister Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi stated that a probe would be initiated after the rescue efforts conclude, promising strict action against any guilty parties. Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh confirmed the multi-agency rescue mobilization.
