Bali Floods: Snake Swims Through Streets!

Bali's renowned tourist destinations, including Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak, are grappling with severe flash flooding due to relentless rainfall since Saturday night. Floodwaters have surged to between 30 and 70 centimeters, inundating several areas. The unusual sight of a large snake swimming through the submerged streets was captured and widely shared, highlighting the extent of the disruption.

The southern coastal town of Sanur has also been significantly affected by the adverse weather. An extreme weather alert has been issued for Kuta and Denpasar, cautioning residents about the potential for flash floods, landslides, and fallen trees. In parts of Kuta, floodwaters reached knee-deep levels, and emergency dinghies were deployed to evacuate residents from the most severely impacted sections of Legian.

Indonesia is presently within its monsoon season, which typically spans from October to April, although variations exist in Eastern Indonesia. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade advises that natural disasters are common in the region. They emphasize the dangers of walking or driving through flooded areas and recommend continuous monitoring of weather reports during the wet season.
