A wheel detached from British Airways flight BA274 during its ascent from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The incident occurred as the aircraft, an Airbus A350-1000, retracted its landing gear shortly after takeoff on Monday evening. Video footage captured sparks emanating from the right main landing gear approximately 40 seconds after liftoff.
The flight was bound for London Heathrow. Despite the loss of a wheel, the aircraft continued its transatlantic journey. Officials confirmed that the flight landed safely at its destination nine hours later. The detached wheel was later recovered from the airfield.
British Airways stated that safety is paramount and they are cooperating with authorities investigating the incident. Fortunately, no injuries or damage to property were reported as a result of the wheel detaching mid-flight.
