BMC Demands Land for Andheri Fire Station
24 Mar
Summary
- BMC issued a final seven-day deadline for land handover.
- Plot reserved for fire station is allegedly used illegally.
- Fire tenders often delayed, coming from other suburbs.

In Andheri West, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC) is escalating efforts to acquire land for a long-awaited fire station. A recent communication from the K-West ward's building proposal department has given the private owner of a reserved plot in Ambivli village a strict seven-day ultimatum to hand over the property. This action follows the owner's non-compliance with a previous notice.
The reserved plot, designated for fire brigade services in the development plan, is allegedly being misused for commercial activities including event venues and shooting studios. Residents have expressed growing concerns over the lack of fire preparedness, noting that fire tenders must be dispatched from distant stations, leading to significant response delays during emergencies.
Corporator Rupesh Savarkar has been actively pursuing the issue, highlighting the urgent need for a fully equipped fire station to enhance emergency response capabilities in the densely populated locality. The BMC warned of involving the collector to take possession of the land if the owner fails to comply within the stipulated timeframe.
