Summary
- Two 250-year-old idols were relocated multiple times over seven years.

- The Sen household has finally returned to their home with the idols.

Two ancient idols, believed to be at least 250 years old, have finally returned to their permanent residence after a seven-year ordeal.
The idols, representing Lakshmi and Mangalchandi, were repeatedly relocated due to the East-West Metro tunneling project and subsequent building subsidence. Initially housed in central Kolkata hotels, they were later moved to apartments in Maniktala and Beleghata.
The Sen household, whose building at 15 Durga Pituri Lane was deemed unsafe, faced multiple evacuations. The first major incident occurred on August 31, 2019, leading to temporary stays in hotels and then a rented flat. Another subsidence on May 11, 2022, forced another evacuation.
After enduring significant anxiety and structural damage to their home, the family, along with the cherished idols and a tulsi sapling, returned to their old neighborhood on July 1, having moved into a newly constructed structure. They now have a dedicated 10ft x 12ft puja room for the idols, with daily prayers being performed.
