A fatal road accident in Ambikapur late Friday claimed the life of Faizan Alam, a young man from Mayapur, and injured his companion, Sameer. The incident happened when their motorcycle collided with a thick rope tied across the road near Jaystambh Chowk, close to a Durga Puja-Jagran venue.
Eyewitness accounts and family members suggest the rope was poorly visible in the dark, with insufficient lighting and warnings at the site. Faizan was pronounced dead at the medical college hospital, while Sameer is receiving treatment. There are unconfirmed allegations of an electric shock contributing to the fatality.
Following the accident and subsequent protests by relatives and local residents, the jagran program was halted. The Kotwali police have initiated legal action, registering an FIR against members of the organizing committee under relevant sections of the BNS. Authorities are investigating the circumstances, including road blocking procedures, lighting, and safety precautions implemented at the venue.
