A pilot and passenger narrowly escaped serious harm when their small plane crashed into the Rio Negro, a tributary of the Amazon River, on January 4th. The incident occurred near Manaus, Brazil, and was captured on video by Fernando Araújo, a jet skier in the vicinity.
Araújo observed the aircraft performing what seemed to be landing and takeoff maneuvers, which prompted him to record. Suddenly, the plane made an unexpected turn, lost altitude, and plunged into the river with a significant splash. He and other watercraft users rushed to the scene.
As the first responders, Araújo and others pulled the injured pilot and passenger from the floating plane. The pilot sustained two deep cuts to his forehead, while the passenger had a smaller cut and a puncture wound on his thigh. Both received first aid on the beach before further medical attention.
