- Exploding oil drums caused panic near a petrol pump, necessitating its shutdown.
A significant fire erupted at a tractor showroom located in the Shivni area, along Murtijapur Road in Akola, on Sunday. The blaze rapidly intensified due to the presence of oil and scrap material in the basement of the three-storey Shriram Tower, leading to the explosion of multiple oil drums. This caused considerable panic in the vicinity.
Four firefighters sustained burn injuries while bravely battling the flames. The fire, which broke out near a petrol pump, prompted authorities to shut it down as a safety measure to avert a potential disaster. Fire tenders from both MIDC and Akola Municipal Corporation worked for nearly three hours to bring the situation under control.
The showroom, owned by Naresh Agrawal and rented by Ganesh Tayade, housed approximately 12 tractors, which were safely removed. However, spare parts and furniture inside were extensively damaged, with estimated losses around 12-15 lakh. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have started from burning garbage on an adjacent plot.
