15 Families Decline Air India Crash Victims' Possessions

Families of 15 out of 260 victims from the Air India crash in Ahmedabad have chosen not to collect the personal belongings of their deceased relatives. Air India has disbursed interim payments of ₹25 lakh to families of 96% of the victims. The remaining cases primarily involve incomplete documentation or family disputes.
Over 22,000 personal items were preserved and listed, with families receiving details via email and a dedicated website. Belongings have been returned for 139 deceased individuals in India and the UK, with some cases pending documentation or declined by families.
Digital devices recovered from the crash have also been partially returned, with 16 out of 25 devices given to families. The Tata Group also announced an ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore beyond legal compensation requirements.
The company has stated that final compensation discussions are underway, with no deadline for families to accept offers. A dedicated welfare trust was established post-crash to support victims and their families, with over 500 volunteers providing on-the-ground assistance.
