8 May
Summary
- An air ambulance helicopter ditched in Loch Torridon due to weather.
- The Scottish Ambulance Service crew landed safely in the loch.
- The Air Accident Investigation Branch has launched an investigation.

A Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) helicopter made an unexpected emergency landing in Loch Torridon on Thursday. The EC145 aircraft "ditched" into the loch as a result of challenging local weather conditions.
The SAS confirmed that there was no patient on board the helicopter at the time of the incident. The pilot and the ambulance personnel on board were reported to be safe and well. They had been en route to attend an emergency call in Applecross.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) has since dispatched a team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the helicopter's landing. Meanwhile, a doctor was dispatched to the patient in Applecross and remained with them until a conventional ambulance arrived.
