The A417 will experience overnight closures for multiple weeks throughout February and March, impacting travel between Gloucester and Cirencester. These disruptions are part of the latest phase of a substantial £460 million road initiative. The initial closure begins on February 13th, affecting traffic from 9 PM to 6 AM the following morning for pothole repairs.
Following this, a more extensive four-week overnight closure will commence on February 16th and continue until March 13th. During this period, the A417 will be shut in both directions between the A46 Brockworth junction and the Air Balloon roundabout on weeknights. National Highways assures that the road will be open as usual during the day.
The closures are in preparation for the A417 Missing Link project, which aims to enhance the connection between two existing dual carriageway sections. Activities include earthworks, drainage, and surfacing. Weekend closures are also scheduled for the A436 in early March and late March. The project's completion is slated for spring 2027, with project managers focused on minimizing impact on road users despite potential weather challenges.
