A serious collision on the A19 in North Tyneside has left a woman in a critical condition. The incident occurred late Friday night when a Volkswagen T-roc, driven by the woman, collided with a Skoda Fabia while attempting to overtake a stationary vehicle. Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance, responded swiftly.
The woman, in her 30s, sustained severe injuries and was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where she remained in a critical state on Saturday. Northumbria Police have arrested two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. They are currently in police custody.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance. They are particularly interested in any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage capturing the moments before or after the crash. The A19 was closed for over 12 hours, causing significant traffic disruption.
