80 Missing After Nepal Border Flash Floods: Rescue Efforts Ongoing

As of September 13, 2026, eighty individuals, including 77 participants of the Kailash Manasarovar Sojourn and three volunteers, are still missing after flash floods occurred near the Nepal-Tibet border. The Isha Foundation is coordinating with Chinese, Indian, and Nepali authorities, as well as embassies from 19 countries, to gather information.
Identification efforts at the flood site are ongoing. However, authorities have indicated that the process may take considerable time due to the difficult conditions. Access to the Gyirong Port, on the Chinese side of the border, is restricted by Chinese authorities for rescue and forensic purposes. Similarly, Nepali authorities have restricted access on the Nepal side, preventing private individuals and organizations from reaching the site.
The Isha Foundation's teams are actively monitoring official sources in Nepal and China for updates. Volunteers are also working diligently to respond to inquiries from affected families through a hotline operating in eight countries. The foundation remains committed to sharing information with affected families as it becomes available.
