Canal Breach Drowns 70 Acres of Paddy
5 Jul
Summary
- Canal distributary breached near Nasrali, destroying paddy crop.
- Over 70 acres of standing crop and nurseries were submerged.
- Farmers demand compensation and permanent repair solutions.
A canal distributary near Nasrali village breached for the second time in a fortnight, leading to the destruction of paddy crops on more than 70 acres. The breach caused canal water to flood agricultural land, submerging standing paddy crops and nurseries.
Farmers are facing significant financial losses and questioning the quality of repair work. They allege that a narrow water outlet unable to handle heavy flow is causing repeated breaches. Farmers, along with local leaders, have demanded immediate compensation for their crop losses.
They are also urging the canal department to implement permanent measures to strengthen the distributary and prevent further damage. This incident follows a similar breach on June 17 near Kutba village, which also damaged crops and a siphon bridge.
