A devastating flash flood in Madhya Pradesh's Agar Malwa district claimed the lives of seven members of a family from Bhubaneswar. The tragedy unfolded early Saturday morning as their taxi, en route from the Maa Baglamukhi temple in Nalkheda, slid off a culvert over a swollen rainwater drain.
The strong currents of the drain, exacerbated by exceptionally heavy rainfall, swept the vehicle approximately 100 meters away. The cab became visible only later in the morning after the water level receded, revealing its roof above the surface. The deceased included three children, two women, the taxi driver, and other family members.
This tragic incident led to protests by locals in Nalkheda, who blocked traffic, expressing their discontent with the administration. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for each of the victims' families. Odisha's Chief Minister declared a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and directed officials to coordinate with the Madhya Pradesh government to assist the bereaved family.
