Tragedy struck in Sunfish Lake on Saturday morning when a 5-year-old girl from Oregon lost her life in a devastating single-vehicle crash. The Chevrolet Express Van, driven by 20-year-old Angel Eduardo Ruiz Perez of Salem, Oregon, was traveling westbound on I-494 near Pieper Road when it veered off the roadway.
The van rolled multiple times before coming to a stop, resulting in the fatality of Camila Flores, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and did not require hospitalization. Road conditions were dry at the time of the incident.
Two other passengers from Salem, Oregon, a 13-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman, were also in the vehicle. Their current conditions will be updated on Monday. Emergency services, including Inver Grove Heights Police and Fire, and MHealth and Fairview Ambulance, responded to the scene.
